The CAREacter star athlete program announced last week the Loudon County football players recognized this season as part of its initiative.
Run by CARE 365, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting those in need, the program was started 23 years ago by former Lenoir City High School Head Football Coach Dave Moore in conjunction with former University of Tennessee Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer and the late UT Women’s Basketball Coach Pat Summitt. The program rewards student athletes for their attitude on and off the field throughout the season.
Recipients of the award are suggested by their coaches based on the five core principles that make a CAREacter star athlete: attitude, performance, community service, grades and character.
One athlete is recognized per week of the football season, with longer postseason runs giving the chance for additional students to be rewarded.
Local winners included:
• Lenoir City — Leo Gonzalez, Egan Rains, Dalton Dukes, River Bailey, Eli Harrison, Carter Youell, Josh Phillips, Bryson Daugherty, Blade Yeager and Tristan Carino.
