Huff Memorial Post 5150 in Loudon distributed poppies as part of the Buddy Poppy Campaign over the Memorial Day weekend at Food City in Loudon. The generosity of Loudon County was, as always, exemplary.
The donations are specifically used to help active-duty veterans and their families. This year we had an active-duty soldier and sailor who needed assistance through some short-time financial difficulties. Our post relief fund was made available to help them.
The majority of the fund goes to the Yellow Ribbon Fund of East Tennessee. This organization helps soldiers returning from active duty get adjusted to civilian life. Additionally, this fund helps support the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Mich. This home was established in 1925 thanks to a patriotic farmer who donated 125 acres on which to build the home. The home has been in continuous service providing widows and orphans of our military with a home that is really needed.
Thank you, Loudon County, for helping us help each other.
