Thank you Loudon Mayor Jeff Harris for giving a forum to voice concerns over the fate of the cat colony at the riverfront in Loudon.
Things went horribly wrong in this situation and defenseless cats paid the price. I was heartened that so many came to Loudon City Council to show compassion and support for these community animals.
We believe this is an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of the people here in Loudon by establishing ordinances and policies that would protect our community cats. Knoxville recently adopted an ordinance to do that in conjunction with Young Williams Animal Shelter, which may be a start.
There is a large community of animal lovers and helpers here who will step up.
Having humane and compassionate policies for the treatment of animals has never hurt the image of a city or county. They enhance the quality of living.
