Josh Epperson wanted his team to be more physical than their opposition, and in the Lady Panthers first regular season game, that was the case.

Early takeaways created havoc for Campbell County and Lenoir City rolled 66-33, its largest winning margin since 2007.

"Tonight was a first step for us," Epperson said. "We talked about creating a culture of winning, a different culture here. Our girls took a big step forward to make sure that's the case."

Allison Latham hit five threes to lead the team with 18 points. Katie Smartt had 16, and both Haley Morris and Kara Steil added 10.

Smartt also finished with eight rebounds, four assists and five steals.

The boys were able to win in double overtime by a score of 58-55.

They trailed 53-50 with 1:11 left in first overtime, but two free throws from Dylan Brewster and one from Jordan Hall tied it up.

Free throws would play a part in second overtime as well, when a missed attempt by Hall led to Lucas Hamilton saving the rebound off a Campbell County player to retain possession. The player was upset by the call and whistled for a technical foul. Brewster knocked down both shots to win.

Hall finished with 20 points. Brewster and Zach Willis each had eight and Garrett Cheatham added seven.

Season passes for Lenoir City basketball are on sale for $50 in the Lenoir City High School front office.
