Published: 04/23/2012

Ardyce Schroth Lane, 72, of Tellico Village, passed away peacefully after battling cancer for 28 months at 4:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, with her husband, Jim Lane, by her side.

She was born September 19, 1939 in Atlanta, Ga. and lived there until she was 7 years old, when she moved to New Orleans, La., until she was in the sixth grade. Her family moved to Chatham, N.J., where she graduated from Chatham High School.

She attended Trenton State Teachers College and earned a BS degree in education. After graduating from college, she married Raymond Schroth in 1960, following a long courtship. When first married, Ray was an officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees and was assigned to duty in Adak, Alaska. Artie was a GS3 for the Navy in this remote place that both she and Ray loved. She and Ray later lived in Sparta, N.J., where she was very active in tennis and the Youth Soccer Association.

Shortly after moving to Tennessee in 2002, Ray was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away. Following Ray's passing, Artie was very active in Tellico Village.

She played in the women's golf league, was a member of the Book Club and practiced yoga. A member of Christ our Savior Lutheran Church she was a member of the Chime Choir, Stephen Ministry, Social Concerns Committee, Library Committee and the Call Committee.

After three and a half years of being a widow, God dropped Jim Lane by her side on the golf course. They were married seven months later and a beautiful love story unfolded. After her marriage to Jim, she became a member of the Tellico Cruising Club and they took their boat 1,200 miles from Loudon to Destin, Fla., in 2008.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ruby Russell; and her first husband of 43 years, Raymond N. Schroth.

Ardyce is survived by husband, Jim Lane of Tellico Village; sister, Mrs. Olivia (John) Colvin of Canyon Lake, Texas; children, Mr. and Mrs. Russell (Lorraine) Schroth of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Jodi) Schroth of Northumberland, Pa., and Sandra (Schroth) Pender and Tom Pender of Fredon, N.J.; grandchildren, Brandy and Christopher Schroth of Northumberland, Pa., and Kylie and Zachary Pender of Fredon, N.J.
